“…you should really make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may have previously never have thought of doing, or maybe too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one piece of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounter with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun…don’t hesitate or allow yourself to make excuses. Just get out and do it. Just get out and do it. You will be very, very glad you did.” ~ Alex McCandless

If i didn’t know better I’d think you posted that just for me.

Thank you Dr. Bill!
LIKED this A LOT
This is a great piece and stirs the soul. However, excuse me for the little bit of negativity, isn’t Alex McCandless the young man who trekked unprepared into the Alaskan wilderness and perished? So maybe the catch-cry “just get out and do it” should have a few planning provisos added to it!
Thanks Elizabeth. I think that what drove him was right in making the decision to boldly change his life. What led to his death was that he didn’t maintain the balance that was needed. Life is like a three legged stool. One of the legs is taking care of ourselfves; one is taking care of our relationships; and the other is taking care of what we do. If one isn’t attended to them . . . we fall . . . .Be well
That puts it into perspective. I am enjoying your posts. Thanks.
Dr. Bill..you had me in mind when you posted this. I make too many excuses..I just need to get out and do it. Thanks..
